Obituary

Funeral services for Rollin L. Struss, 82, East Moline, are 10 AM Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, East Moline. Burial is in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund or to Little Lambs Preschool at his church. Rollin passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at his home. He was born October 12, 1927 in Port Byron, IL, the son of Henry and Anna Reiling Struss. He graduated from East Moline, High School. He served in the US Army Air Corp during the end of WWII and again at the beginning of the Korean War. He married the love of his life JoAnn Nice on October 24, 1950 in San Rafael, CA. Rollin retired as a Senior Metallurgical Technician from John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline after 37 years with the company. He had served as president of the UTHS Band Parents, held offices in several of the Zion Lutheran Church Boards including Chairman of the Board of Elders. He sat on the board of managers at Quail Run Condominiums, East Moline. He was an avid sports fan, who loved to watch the Chicago White Sox, the Fighting Illini, and the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed Traveling and in earlier years would take his family camping. Rollin loved his family dearly from his loving wife to his great granddaughter. His family was truly his greatest accomplishment. Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, JoAnn, children and spouses: Thomas and Janet Struss, Aurora, CO, Gail Earl, Moline and Donna and Lowell Jacobsen, Altoona, IA, grandchildren (spouses): Katie (Mike) Stuart, David (Nina) Struss, Alyssa Jacobsen and Kyle Jacobsen, a great granddaughter Jordan Stuart, a sister Marjorie Mercer and a brother Roger (Joanne) Struss both of Geneseo. He is preceded in death by his son Mark, parents, brother Norman and a sister Lucille.
