Obituary

Funeral services for Ronald Michael Andon, 70, of East Moline, IL, will be 10 AM Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Rapids City, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Andon died Friday, September 30, 2016 at his home after a brief battle with cancer. Ron was born August 6, 1946, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Pete Gust and Mary Jane Bachman Andon. He was a graduate of UTHS and Blackhawk College. He received his bachelor's degree in Accounting from St. Ambrose College and his masters degree in Systems Management from Florida Institute of Technology. He married Simone Marie Schulte April 20, 1968 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict from July 29, 1970 until January 3, 1972. He was stationed with the 1st Radio Research Company, Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 1960 Device, and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm. Ron had worked for John Deere, Herman Nelson Co, U.S. Army Audit Agency, and retired from the Joint Munitions Command, Rock Island Arsenal, as the Appropriations Division Chief . He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Church, where he served on the Parish Council and Grounds Maintenance crew. He enjoyed gardening, walking, taking fishing trips to Canada and Belize. Some of Ron's favorite memories were holidays spent with family; Michigan beach vacations with family; trips to Belize and Greece; long walks and quiet time on the bike path; contemplating "honey do" projects; and grilling kabobs at the Greek Fest. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Simone Andon, East Moline; Christopher Andon, West Liberty, IA, and Scott Andon(Art Jones), Austin, TX; granddaughter, Brandi; brothers, Pete (Karen) Andon, Saginaw, MI, Kenneth Andon, Urbana, OH, and James Andon Silvis, IL: his red longhair Dachshund, Gust. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.
