Funeral services for Ronald L. "Matt" Matthews, 72, East Moline, are 1:30 PM Tuesday, at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion will conduct military honors. Visitation is 5-8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Matthews died Friday, August 5, 2005 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Matt was born, June 15 1933 in Augusta, IL. He married Dixie Baltzell in Peoria, IL. She died in 1966. He retired in the late 1980's as a Union Electrician for the IBEW local 145. He served in the USMC during the Korean Conflict. Matt was a member of the IBEW, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the VFW and the Marine Corp League. Survivors include children Michelle Clower, East Moline, Katherine DeFrieze, Silvis, Matt (Mary) Matthews, East Moline and Ronda Gunn, East Moline, grandchildren Ray, Dixie, Chris, Shannon, Michael, Justin, Cody, Nick, Jessica, Amber, Shain, Matt, Courtney, Chris, Brad and Olivia, seven great-grandchildren, a sister Mariam Thannert, Willow Springs, MO and good friends Paul Gunn and Ron Sommers.
