Obituary

Ronald Dean Mulcahy , age 91, was born on October 24, 1934, and passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026.

Ron was the youngest child of James V. Mulcahy and Dorothy Carlson Manchion. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard "Dick" Mulcahy; his sister, Mary Seyller; his devoted and loyal wife, Paula Jean (Johnson) Mulcahy; and his beloved daughter, Kara Bauer. He is now reunited with those who passed before him.

He is survived by his son, Robert Mulcahy (Jodi Harney); his cherished granddaughters, Erin Hoppenworth (Andrew Hoppenworth), Kristin Kimes (Michael Kimes), Emma Bauer, and Hannah Bauer; his son-in-law, Mark Bauer; and his great-grandson, Cameron Kimes. He will also be deeply missed by his many friends, caregivers Oral and Pauline Smith, and all those whose lives he touched with his warmth, generosity, and kindness.

Ron graduated from United Township High School in 1953 and proudly served his country as a medic in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at Wickham Field. He continued his education at the University of Hawaii, Western Illinois University, and Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, Illinois.

Ron enjoyed a long and distinguished career at Abbott Laboratories, where he was employed for 37 years and retired as a National Account Manager. During his tenure, he received numerous awards, including recognition for his significant contributions to personnel development. Many of the individuals Ron mentored went on to build successful careers both within Abbott and at other multinational corporations.

He was deeply involved in his community, serving as a Cub Scout Leader, Chairman of the Espiritu Santo Catholic School Board in Safety Harbor, Florida, and as a counselor to the Americas Small Business Association in Pinellas County, Florida.

Ron and Paula shared a love of travel and explored much of the United States and Europe together. Ron was especially fond of traveling to Ireland, where he enjoyed playing golf and immersing himself in a culture that reminded him of his father. A lifelong and unabashed Green Bay Packers fan, Ron eagerly looked forward to Sunday football throughout his life.

Funeral services will be held at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31st, with a visitation one hour prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Family and friends are invited to attend, share memories, and reminisce about a life well lived. Following services, interment with military honors will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.
