Funeral services for Ronald J. Olsen, 72, of East Moline, IL, will be 1:00 PM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Olsen died unexpectedly after surgery Thursday January 29, 2009 at his home. Memorials may be made to the All Animal Humane Society, Milan, IL. Ron was born February 15, 1936 in Moline, IL, the son of Elmer and Ora (Roberts) Olsen. He married Cecily Ann Barta March 9, 1957 in South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, IL. He retired in 1990 as Journeyman Plumber from the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 25, Rock Island, after 35 years of service. He had also worked at the Quad City Nuclear Plant in Cordova, IL. Ron enjoyed watching TV (especially the Bears), GM cars, traveling with his wife visiting the Western United States and Canada, working around the house taking care of his lawn, and making sure his wife and 4 cats were well taken care of. He was a loving husband (soul mate), father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Survivors include: his wife of nearly 52 years, Cecily Olsen of East Moline; daughters and sons-in-law, Tamera and Peter Franck of Rock Island, Lisa and Eric Erickson of Andalusia, IL; grandchildren, Tara (Michael) Hogan, Rebecca Franck, Gregory Sheldon, Sarah Sheldon, Brett Erickson, Danielle Erickson, and Katelyn Erickson; great grandchildren, Cora and Christian; brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Mary Olsen of St. Petersburg, FL.
