Funeral services for Ronald A. Petersmith, 63, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 2:00PM. A time of sharing will begin at 6:30PM. Ron died Sunday, December 1, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Hospital Peoria, IL. Memorials may be made to The Alleman High School Endowment Fund. Ron was born July 18, 1950 in Rock Island, IL, the son of Arthur and Lucille Vanderbeke Petersmith. He received his Bachelor Degree from the University of Houston in 1979. He married Joyce Peterson July 9, 1983, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. He began his career at John Deere Harvester, East Moline, December 10, 1979, where he was currently Supervisor of Parts Supply. Ron lived for his family and loved coaching all of his children's sports. He was a loyal friend, "bigger than life", who would give you the shirt off his back. An avid outdoorsman, he would hunt or fish at every opportunity. Ron was born with a green streak in his heart, starting with his Alleman High School Pioneers, then John Deere, and last but not least, Notre Dame. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Petersmith, East Moline; daughter, Kari Petersmith, St Louis, MO; sons, Joshua Petersmith, St. Louis, and Jared Petersmith, Tampa, FL; grandson, Colton; sisters, LuAnn (Kirk) Haydon, Hampton, IL, and Debbie (Chuck) Williams, Auburn, CA; brother, Michael (Kathy) Petersmith, Houston, TX; mother-in-law, Doris Peterson, Geneseo, IL; sisters-in-law, Barb (Bill) Klemm Springfield, IL, and Nancy Denys, East Moline; uncle, Bob Vanderbeke, East Moline; special great nephew, Austin Shoemaker; and his many friends and extended family.
