Memorial service for Rose Marie Hayes, 78, Rock Island is 1PM Monday, July 23, 2007 at St. Pius X, Rock Island. Private inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Rose's family will greet friends from 12:30 until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Pathway Hospice or to a favorite charity. Rose died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at the home of her daughters in Rock Island. At Rose's request her body has been cremated. She was born in Davenport, IA on September 30, 1928, the daughter of Dr. James Clement and Eudora (Farley) Langdon. She lived in and attended Rock Island Schools, marrying Jean P Etzel in 1948; they later divorced. She married Gilbert Hayes in Chicago, they too divorced. She continued to live in Chicago with her companion Arsene Bell until his death in 1997 when she moved back to Rock Island. She had worked various jobs throughout her life but her true occupation was to create humor for loved ones and to take care of her many beloved pets. Survivors include her daughters Susan M. Vize and Roxanne King Harms, both of Rock Island and Jane Ferry Conwell; stepson Michael (Bell) Ballentine, sister Catherine Dineen of Morgan Hill, CA, brother John "Jack" Langdon, Rock Island, grandchildren; Michael and David (Shauna) Ferry, Michigan, Jennifer King, Moline, John Conwell, Rock Island Joanie Vize, Milan and Amy O'Neal, Rock Island, great-grandchildren; Zachary, Kaitlin, Allison and Jacob (Ferry), Cayontaye, Devin and Vanessa (Vize) and Kiah (O'Neal), and her first husband Jeno. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Edwin, James, Richard, and William, sister Jane, ex-husband Gilbert Hayes and special friend Arsene Bell.
