On January 07, 2024, Roy William Skinner, 83, of Colona, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Barbara of 60 years, and family at his side. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, January 12, 2024, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Colona, IL. The burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, rosary recited at 3 PM.
Roy attended Alleman High School and went to the Air Force. When out of the Air Force, he helped start the Colona Volunteer Fire Department and was a dedicated community member. Then, in 1962, he began work at John Deere Harvester. While at Deere, he was a vital Union member of Local 865, serving nine years on the Executive Board, Chairman of the Pension Committee, and State and Area Cap. Delegate, as well as various other positions, retiring in 1999. Roy coached the Rangers Little League baseball team, which took first place. He was an avid woodworker and belonged to the Wood Workers Turning Club. He generously opened his shop to friends who needed help with a project. Roy enjoyed antique cars and owned a restored Little Red Express. He was very generous with his time and effort volunteering to mow and remove snow for neighbors. Roy was a devoted gardener and enjoyed landscaping.
Roy is survived by his wife, Barbara; children; Nina, Joe, and Bill (Nora); grandchildren, Kelli, Samantha, Jake, and Ariel; great-grandsons, Kameron and Silas; and sister, Kathy Frank.
He was predeceased by his parents, Sally and Bill; and brother-in-law, Jerry Frank.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
