Funeral services for Rudolph "Rudy" Neels, 84, East Moline, are 11 AM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Rudy died Sunday, August 13, 2006 at Parkview Terrace, East Moline. A memorial fund has been established. Rudy was born, June 29, 1922 in East Moline, the son of John and Clara (Schrink) Neels. He married Carol Schildmiller in 1955. She died in 1965. Rudy had worked at the Moline Post Office and as an assembler at John Deere Harvester, East Moline. He served in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the Marine Corp League, the American Legion, VFW, AmVETS, 40-8, POW-MIA Association; Cootie's, had sat on the Veteran's Assistance Board, Chapter 9 Disabled Veterans of America and was a member of the Silvis Eagles. Survivors include sons Raymond Neels, Rock Island and Lawrence Neels, Kewanee, grandsons Greg, Mike and Nicholas, step-grandchildren Michael Barnes, Jamie Royce, Richard Barnes and Laura Barnes, two great-grandchildren, sisters Alma Lesthaghe, Lynn Center and Mary Keener, East Moline. He is preceded in death by his son Duane, wife Carol and brothers Fred, Homer, Robert and his twin Adolph. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com
