Funeral services for Russel L. Fanning, 76, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Fanning died Friday, September 4, 2009 at home. Memorials may be made to Calvary Chapel Quad Cities, Rock Island, IL or Trinity Pathway Hospice. Russ was born October 20, 1932 in Philadelphia, IL, the son of Floyd and Amie (Landrith) Fanning. He married Anna "Mickey" DeMink November 4, 1950 in Moline, IL. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Moline, after 32 years of service. He had appeared in the Goodyear newspaper advertisement, where he earned the title of "Mr. Brakes." He enjoyed working on cars and NASCAR. Survivors include his wife, Mickey Fanning of Moline; daughter, Kay Abbitt of Moline; daughter-in-law, Tracy Fanning of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Krista (Bruce) Clark, Ryan and Shannon Struck; great grand daughter, Alexandria Clark; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Mickey Sue Fanning of Covina, CA; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews.
