Russell H. Miller, 88, Silvis, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Memorial services are 11AM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, with a visitation 1 hour prior. Memorials may be made to Heifer International. Russell was born February 24, 1923 in Tiskilwa, IL, the son of Otto and Mary Ella (Wright) Miller. Russell met his future wife when the 2 of them were working on a ship, She a nurse and he a 3rd Engineer for the Merchant Marines. He married Ludmilla Sammalsoo on September 19, 1950 in Knoxville, TN. She died August 13, 1990. Mr. Miller was never afraid to work. His entrepreneur spirit led him to farming, insurance sales, owning a Dairy Queen, a liquor store, among other persuits. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his children, their spouses and their families; son Mike and Deb Miller, Morrison, IL, and their children; Hillary (fiance, Jason Bond) and Meredith (Colin) Sanderson, son Lloyd and Meg Miller, Tecumseh, MI, and their children; Leon and Max, and daughter, Lona and Mike Friedman, East Moline, their children; Angela (fiance, Steve Reynolds), Laura and Eric, a sister Jeanne (Eldon) Richards, Princeton, IL and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife and 7 brothers and sisters. The family wishes to extend special gratitude to the nurses, aides and staff at Illini Restorative Care for their kindness and support.
