Ruth G. Collins, 97, East Moline, passed away Friday March 13, 2020 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Graveside services will be held 11:30AM Wednesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation is 10-11AM prior to services at the cemetery, at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Those wishing to attend services at the cemetery, must be at the funeral home by 11AM Wednesday to be a part of the processional. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Ruth was born March 3, 1923 in Waterloo, IA, a daughter of Arthur and Gladys (Davis) Pieper. She married John Collins, June 26, 1947 in Nashua, IA. He passed away September 8, 2016.

She proudly served our country during WWII as a WAC. She was honorably discharged in 1946. She was proud to be able to be part of the 2009 Honor Flight of the QC. Ruth was the first woman to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Rock Island National Cemetery.

She worked as a secretary for the Teamster's Local #371 for over 25 years. She enjoyed baking, decorating, reading, traveling, shopping, dining out and dancing. She loved her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include 3 daughters: Paula (Don) Goering, Hampton, Jon Collins, East Moline, and Michelle Collins, East Moline; 4 grandchildren: Brant (Brenda) Goering, San Antonio, TX, Erin (DJ) Mumma, Byron, IL, Jennifer Mortell, Rock Island, and Bobbi Jo Hurd, Buckeye, AZ; 8 great-granchildren: Kaley, Katelin, Cameron, Broc, Devin, Aune, Ryan, Tristan, and Kailen; a brother: Bruce (Norma) Pieper, Rock Island and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother.
