Ruth F. Longbons, 92, of Geneseo, IL, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, IL. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 10 at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo, with Rev. Michael Pakula officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the Church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment is in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo. Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL, is in charge of arrangements. Ruth was born August 3, 1913 in Decatur, IL, daughter of Francis and Ellen "Nellie" (Malone) Kennedy. She married Melvin J. Longbons in Decatur on December 16, 1961. They retired to Geneseo in 1967. Melvin died August 30, 1975. A special friend, Wray Baker, died April 7, 2000. Ruth graduated from Decatur High School and was employed at the former A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co., Decatur. She served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Malachy's and was a member of Circle 6. She was a member of the Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary and Volunteer Staff. Survivors include a step-son, Jerry (Millie) Longbons of Carbon Cliff; step-grandchildren, Laurie (Mark) Stepanek, Irvine, CA, Jeff (Kim) Longbons, Wheaton, IL, and Greg (Janis) Longbons, Lake Carroll, IL; six step-great-grandchildren, Jack Stepanek of Irvine, Letitia and Grace Longbons of Wheaton, and Tessa, Anna and Caleb Longbons of Lake Carroll; brother-in-law, John Stern, Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sisters Lucille and Guyneith Kennedy and Marjorie Stern; and brothers Clarence, Wilbur, and Frank Kennedy.
