Funeral services for Ruth M. VandeGeest, 80, East Moline, are 11 AM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Ruth died Saturday June 2, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Ruth Shafer was born July 12, 1926 in Oskaloosa, IA, the daughter of Robert and Osa (Husted) Shafer. She married Gerrit VandeGeest on November 2, 1946 in Oskaloosa. Ruth enjoyed crocheting and working crossword puzzles. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Gerrit, daughters and sons-in-law Virginia and Charlie Dilts, Ridge Manor, FL, Mary and Chuck Hopwood, Milan, IL, and Laura Burke, Wichita, KS, a son and daughter-in-law Bob and Margaret VandeGeest, Allen Park, Michigan, ten grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a brother Robert Shafer, IA. A son Gerrit "Bill" Vandegeest preceded her in death.
