Funeral services for Sandra J Arvanis-Meewes, 64, East Moline, are 10 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lions Club. Sandy died Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Sandy was born September 28, 1944 in Moline, the daughter of Harry and Alfreda (Wendell) Arvanis. She married Donald L. Meewes on August 25, 1983 in Rock Island. Sandy had worked for the US Post Office for 30 years and the last 20 years as Post Master at Charlotte, IA and Thompson, Illinois. She had served on the Church Board at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island and was the first female to become a member of the Thompson, Illinois Lion's Club. Survivors include her husband, Donald, son Robert of Olathe, KS, grandchildren; Kayla, Kim and Kevin. Her mother and father Harry and Alfreda Arvanis, East Moline, brothers and sisters-in-law Harry and Linda Arvanis, East Moline, John and Karen Arvanis, Port Byron, IL and Sam and Virginia Arvanis, Romeoville, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
