Obituary

Sarah E. "Betty" Pfau , 97, of Hampton, IL, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 2nd, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL, with visitation from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to services. Interment will be at Hampton Cemetery, Hampton, IL. Memorials may be made to Wildwood Church, East Moline or to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Betty was born April 2, 1927, in Hampton, Illinois, to James and Tennie (Rice) Finley. After graduating from United Township High School in 1945 she went off to air traffic controller school in Kansas and as we know that didn't pan out. She returned home and married Donald M. Pfau, Jr. on March 17, 1950, in East Moline, IL. Later in Don's career with Deere & Company they were transferred to the European office in Heidelberg, Germany. During those 8 years in Germany they traveled extensively in Europe and made many close friends.

Betty was a full-time mom with a big heart for her family and friends; always with a listening ear, hot coffee and her famous chocolate chip cookies. She dearly loved her grandchildren but when the great-grand children arrived it was a whole new game. They visited often and she was amused by them throughout the years. Betty was a member of Wildwood Church and she had a strong faith and loved the Lord. She enjoyed church visiting with her dear friend Charlene. She will be immensely missed and will be fondly remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Sean McGivern, Hampton, IL; daughter-in-law, Brenda Pfau, Hampton, IL; grandchildren, Drew (Natalie) Wayne, Eldridge, IA, Ryan (Susan) McGivern, Davenport, and Katie (Ryan) Ganshert, Davenport; great-grandchildren, Brogan, Olivia, Salima, Kyler, Liam, Karter, Isla and Kolton; "Grand-dog, Kooper"; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, Jr.; son, Kenyon "Ken" F. Pfau; parents, James and Tennie; brothers, Ed and Kenneth Finley; and her sister, Juanita Farmer.

The family would like to personally thank the caring staff (angels) at Clarissa C. Cook Hospital who took wonderful care of Betty.
