Obituary

Shawn A. Drovesky, 55, of East Moline, died Tuesday July 4, 2017 at home.

Shawn was born July 29, 1961 in Moline, the son of Walter R. and Rita Roesner "Clay Rose" Drovesky. Mr. Drovesky was a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Island.

Shawn graduated from Rock Island High School in 1977. He was a member of the Mid-America Paleontology Society. As part of his studies on May 20, 1978, Shawn and others from the society had made a trip to the old Pennsylvanian strip-mine area near Atkinson, Illinois to collect invertebrates such as cephalopods, gastropods, and brachiopods. He loved the earth and animals.

Shawn was a former member of the Quad Cities League of Native Americans, was very active and enjoyed promoting his Native American heritage. His mother, Rita, was Mescarlero Apache. Before his illness and injury, Shawn had formed a Native American Drum Group, had made his own Native American regalia, and danced at pow wows. Shawn and his family were very active in putting on the Spirits Pow Wow at Spirit in the Oaks Campground and in doing bead-working and Native American crafts. The family was also involved with Civil War reenactments.

Shawn loved the outdoors and landscaping their yard. He and his father, Wally, would start at Halloween and go through Christmas decorating their house for the holidays to try to win the annual Christmas lighting contest.

Shawn's other interests were varied as he attended Star Trek conventions, was a member of the SFI chapter – Star Fleet Region Twelve (rank of Captain of USS Orion), Quad-City Scale Modeler Society, attended Renaissance Festivals, and had an interest in vintage airplanes. He was also an armchair historian on WWII.

Surviving are his sister, Sheila Jo Jasper of Davenport, and his friends, Teri & Jeremiah Griebel, Jeff Funk and Shane Russell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Rita Drovesky and his beloved dog, Max.

Further service arrangements are pending at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd., East Moline.
