Sherman Rowland, 80, Geneseo, passed away on February 25, 2015 at Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services are 11 AM Monday, March 9, 2015 at Van Hoe Funeral Home ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is from 9AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project. Sherman was born on April 5, 1934 in Wyoming, IL, the son of James and Rachel Price Rowland. He married Jo Ann David and together on June 7, 1954 in Kewanee, IL. Sherman was a career US Army Veteran, serving from 1958 until 1979, retiring as a Master Sargent. Jo Ann passed away on September 9, 2010. Survivors include his sons, Michael (Penny) Rowland of Charleston SC; David Rowland of St Louis, MO; Steven (Polly) Rowland of Cincinnati, OH; and James Rowland, San Diego, CA, eight grandchildren, a great grandchild, and siblings, Joyce Wade, Donald Rowland, Ronald Rowland, Edward Rowland, Larry Rowland, Albert Rowland and Charles Rowland, In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Harold, Frederick, William, and Margaret.
