Obituary

Shirley D. Grove, 77, of East Moline, passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Trinity Rock Island. Funeral services celebrating her life will be 1PM Saturday at 1st Christian Church, East Moline. The Rev. William F. Coley will officiate. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline and 1 hour prior to services at the church. Entombment at the Rock Island National Cemetery will be at a later date following cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Christian Church, East Moline or Hope Lodge in Iowa City, IA. Shirley was born on July 9, 1934 in Bement, IL, the daughter of Fred E. and Ruth L. Rambo. Upon graduation from Macon High School, she moved to Decatur, IL where she went to work for Illinois Power. It was in Decatur that she met John Robert "Bob" Grove. They were united in marriage on March 26, 1955. Shirleyís family was always important to her. While her children were growing, she was very involved in their lives and their activities. She also drew great strength from her faith in God. Throughout the years, she served on numerous church committees, Christian Women's Fellowship, Youth group leader and as a deacon. She enjoyed working with crafts. After her children were older, she went to work at John Deere Distribution Service Center (DSC) in Moline, as a warehouse worker. She retired in 1994. During her retirement years, she and Bob enjoyed traveling throughout the country in their RV. She met many good friends in the Quad Cities Winnies Camping Club and the FCRV Retirees Rallies. She will be deeply missed by her husband Bob, daughters Terri and Tina, both of East Moline, son Todd, Kansas City, MO, brother Homer (Marilyn) Rambo, Decatur, sisters, Linda (William) Wiseman, Moweaqua, Mabel Willis, Moweaqua, Barbara (Howard) Reynolds, Decatur, Vivian Stiner, Moweaqua, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, her aunt Betty Rambo, and special friends, Mark and Deb Langley, and honorary grandchildren Sarah and Jake Langley and honorary great grandson Conner Nielsen. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers-in-law, James Stiner, Don Willis and Richard Grove. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Shirley's Doctors and staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics during her two year battle with cancer. A very special thanks to the SICU Staff at Trinity Rock Island for the caring and compassion shown during the final days of Shirley's life journey.
