Obituary

Shirley E. Rodgers , 88, of East Moline, IL, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Park Vista, East Moline.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 24th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Moline, IL.

Shirley was born August 26, 1936, in Davenport, Iowa, to Clarence R. and Verda G. (Geesey) Tschillard. She married Richard D. Rodgers on April 7, 1967, in Davenport, Iowa.

She loved all animals, birds, and butterflies. She loved to tend to her rose garden when she and the family weren't out camping at their lot at Woodhaven Lakes. The artsy side of Shirley had her baking and decorating cakes for family and friends or decorating her basement like King Arthur's castle which included a seven foot tall suit of armor statue. Camping, cruises, and cross country travel wasn't where she stopped. She loved being underwater as a certified scuba diver. She also enjoyed selling houses as a realtor for some of the smaller realty companies in the QCA.

She was a contract specialist for over 20 years at the Rock Island Arsenal from where she retired to travel full time in the couples' motorhome for ten years.

Shirley was a current member of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Moline. She had been a member of Moline Gospel Temple for over 30 years, and Crossroad Community Church, Lady Lake Florida for 16 years. Florida was her home for 17 years, as it had been a dream of the couple for years. Shirley and Richard moved back to the QCA over two years ago when Shirley's health started to wane.

Surviving are her husband, Richard, of East Moline; children, Allen B. Russell, Florida, Darrell Russell, Olathe, KS, and Sondra (John) Karben, East Moline; stepson, Richard "Rick" Rodgers II, East Moline; five grandchildren, several great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Donald Prewein, Deltona, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family.

She was preceded in death by her son, Brian Russell; stepdaughter, Alicia Martinez; parents, Clarence and Verda; sisters, Lorraine Kohl and her husband Victor, Verda Wheeler and her husband Allen, and Barbara Prewein; and brother, Clarence Tschillard and his wife Betty.
