Funeral services for Stacy E. King, 88, of Silvis, IL, will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Monday at the funeral home. Mr. King died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus Hospice Program. Mr. King was born October 14, 1919 in New Boston, IL, the son of Asa P. and Louise R.(Gaines) King. He was a graduate of Colona High School. He married Betty Clark in Clinton, IA in 1940. He later married Dorothy Finley March 10, 1951 in Colona, IL. He served in the US Naval Reserves during WWII from 1944-1946. He trained at Great Lakes, IL, Jacksonville and Banana River, FL with PatBomRon P.B. 25. Stacy served in the Asiatic Philippine Liberation American Area. He earned the Victory Medal with 1 star, also Air Medals with 2 gold stars. He retired from John Deere Spreader Works after 30 years of service and 5 years at John Deere Harvester, East Moline. Mr. King had been the Mayor of Silvis from 1977 -1989, Silvis City Treasurer in 1989, and Silvis Alderman from 1997-1999. He was a life member of the Silvis Optimist, East Moline American Legion Post 227, Moline VFW 2153, and Silvis Masonic Lodge 898. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and reading. He was a faithful fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. The most important thing in his life was time spent with his family and friends. Survivors include: his wife of 57 years, Dorothy King of Silvis, daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Marshall Schwartz of Aurora, CO; sons and daughter-in-law, Clark and Linda King of Colona, Brian King of East Moline; step daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Craig Rowlands of Geneseo, IL; stepson and daughter-in-law, Michael and Carla Finley of Thomasville, GA; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Jett of Rock Island, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
