Funeral services for Stanley R. "Stash" Krol, 91, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 AM Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30PM. Mr. Krol died Sunday, January 15, 2012 at his home. Memorials may be made to the Alleman, Moline, or UTHS Boosters Clubs. Stash was born October 1, 1920 in East Moline the son of Stanley and Konstansia Olender Krol. He was a graduate a UTHS Class of 1938. He married Mary Ann Radovich August 9, 1947 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII, where he had been a Demolition Specialist attaining the rank of Sergeant. While in the service he participated in the occupation of Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, participated in the capture of Saipan, Marianas Island, and participated in the assault and capture of Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. He was a proud Marine who witnessed the American flag being raised on Iwo Jima. Stash also had a colorful professional life. He had been a Master Meat Cutter, a Master Carpenter, and a Master Heat Treater, retiring from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1981. Lastly, he achieved his goal of owning and operating, but never retiring from, Stashu & Sons Sausage Shoppe, Moline for 35 years. He had been active in his community. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Davenport and the East Moline and Colona American Legion. He attended St. Anne Catholic Church and St. Patrick Catholic Church, Colona. He had been an avid golfer who had a hole-in-one and had shot his age so many times he lost count. He was an excellent woodworker, last making special items for each of his great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary Krol, East Moline; children, Thomas (Victoria) Krol, West Palm Beach, FL, James (Laurel) Krol, Moline, Barbara (Deno) Minas, Coal Valley, IL, and Kenneth "Sarge" (Dora) Krol, East Moline; grandchildren, Nicholas (Jacqueline) Minas, Cary, NC, Jenet (Charles) Wenderoth, Leesburg, FL, Allison (Ian) Everhard, The Woodlands, TX, Kile Krol, Moline, Jordan Krol, East Moline, Micaela Krol, Chicago, Nadia Krol, Iowa City, IA; great-grandchildren, Caiden and Eliah Minas,Cary, and Avin and Maeli Everhard, The Woodlands; brother, Joseph Krol, Silvis; many nieces and nephews.
