Funeral services for Stephen A. "Steve" Van Speybroeck, 65, of Davenport, IA, will be 10:00 am Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home, where rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm. Mr. Van Speybroeck died Saturday, December 24, 2016, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. Steve was born January 25, 1951, in Moline, IL, the son of William and Myrna Anthony Van Speybroeck. He married Natalia Borszcz and later married Deborah Seidenzahl. He was the Fraternal Director at Modern Woodmen, Rock Island, retiring in 2013, after 30 years of service. Steve was an active member of the Quad City community his entire life. From working in Speybroeck's, the family clothing store as a child, to acting with Genesius Guild, coaching his son's basketball teams, playing Santa for Modern Woodmen for over 20 years, serving on boards for Ballet Quad Cities, the Handicap Development Center, Genesius Guild, and the Rock Island Jaycees. He was an avid Cubs fan, a lover of travel, music, theater, running, golf, basketball, and above all his family and friends. His legacy will live on in his unique talent of bringing people together, of treating strangers like family, and through the personal experiences, stories and memories shared amongst loved ones. Survivors include his children, Andrew (Alyssa) Van Speybroeck, Bettendorf, Kevin (Ashleigh) Van Speybroeck, Davenport, and Emily (Jon) Cole, Chicago, IL; grandchild, Tyler Van Speybroeck, and 2 more grandchildren due soon; siblings, Lisa (James) Coleman, Galva, IL, Renee (Larry) Stephenson, Moline, David (Mary) Van Speybroeck, Colona, IL, Marcia Stone, Rock Island, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Dennis Sherrod and David Stone, and nephew, Chris Van Speybroeck.
