Steven Terronez, 89, of East Moline, passed away surrounded by family, Monday, May 17, 2021, at Genesis Illini in Silvis, IL. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 22, 2021, 10:00-12:00pm, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd.
Steven was born December 26, 1931, the son of Emiliano and Anna (Cobos) Terronez. He married Gudrun Jucknies on April 26, 1958 in Davenport, IA. Steven joined the Navy and had fought in the Korean War. After his discharge, Steven was a painter for several years working at IH Farmall for 26 years, and then spent his remaining working years prior to retirement in 1997 at Sears Manufacturing. Steven loved many things pertaining to sports, especially basketball, and softball. He also spent his free time coaching and was also one of the original founders of the Mexican Basketball League. Most of all, Steven loved listening to the Mexican music and spending time with his family.
Steven is survived by his wife, Gudrun Terronez, East Moline; children, Jan Terronez, Rock Island, Ann Covemaker, Silvis, Steven (Amy) Terronez, San Jose, CA, Jeff Terronez, Rock Island; 6 granchildren. Natasha (Brandon) Larson, Roland (Brittany) Kerr, Brandon (Jamie) Kerr, Max Covemaker, Ryan Covemaker, and Emma Terronez; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; siblings, Phyllis, Frank. Luz, Augustina, Joseph, Amelia, Lupe, James "Sid", Maria, and Raymond "Zeke"; and a sister-in-law, Karin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Josephine Soliz, and brother Charles Terronez.
