Graveside services for Thelma Barnes, 93, of Omaha, NE, formerly of Silvis, IL, will be 11:30 am Tuesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 - 11:00 am Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Anyone wishing to attend the graveside service should be at the funeral home by 11:00 am. Mrs. Barnes died Saturday April 30, 2016, at New Cassel Retirement Center, Omaha. Thelma Asher was born August 14, 1922, in Albia, IA, the daughter of James and Jennie Wilson Asher. She married Dale Barnes May 29, 1954, in Albia. He died November 21, 1994. She was a graduate of Marycrest College, Davenport, IA. She had worked at the former East Moline State Hospital and ARC of the Quad Cities. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Moline, and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed music, especially opera and shopping. Her life revolved around her granddaughters. Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth (Michael) Dyer, Elkhorn, NE; granddaughters, Danielle, Emily, and Sarah Dyer; sister-in-law, Elsie Asher, Albia; nieces, Deb Wiedenhoeft, Carolyn Barnes, Donna Wood, Marla Zbornik, and Jo Ann Thompson; and dear friend, Judy Lambert. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Ruth Johnson; brothers, Donald Asher and James Asher Jr. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of Humility, Davenport, Disabled American Veterans, or an Animal Shelter of your choice.
