Obituary

Thomas "Nolan" Hurt, Sr. 82, of Hampton, IL, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan, IL. Funeral services are 10:00AM Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Rapids City, IL Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, where Military Honors will be presented by the East Moline American Legion Post 227. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00 PM Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL, where a rosary will be recited at 1:30PM. Memorials may be made to Parkinson's Research. Nolan was born February 14, 1931, in Galesburg, IL, the son of Thomas B. and Katheryn Nolan Hurt. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Bernice Gray. He later married Monica Miller. She died in February 8, 1994. Nolan then married Carol Emmerson Buller April 27, 1996 in Erie, IL. Nolan had been a Sports Writer for the Argus/Dispatch Newspapers, retiring in 1996 after 42 years of service. He was a member of St Mary's Mission Church, Hampton, and The Catfish Jazz Society. He was involved for 27 years with Alcoholics Anonymous. He loved to golf and dance. He had been a diehard Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Notre Dame Fan. His years as a writer for the newspaper, stoked his passion for proper English and grammar. He is survived by his wife Carol; daughters, Angela (Tom) Kilgore, Milan, IL, Andrea Kaskadden, Moline, IL, and Michelle Hurt, Rock Island, IL; son, Thomas (Toni) Hurt; step-daughters, Christine (Blane) Bolte, Walcott, Iowa, Debra (Bob) Pettit, Milan, and Paula (Terry) McKinney, East Moline; step-sons, Jeff (Sandi) Buller, Moline, IL, Rick (Jane) Buller, Burlington, Iowa, Mark (Sally) Trulson, Rock Island, and David Trulson, North Carolina; 22 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his sister, Terry DeSmet, St. Louis, MO; and brother, John D. Hurt of Rock Island. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Monica Hurt; son, Patrick Hurt, brother, Murray Hurt. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com
