Obituary

Thomas Lingris, 79, East Moline, died Monday, September 15, 2014 at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. Funeral services are 10:00 AM Saturday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion Prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM. Memorials may be made to Assumption Church or to a favorite charity. Tom was born December 16, 1934 in East Moline, the son of George and Diane Kosiaras Lingris. He graduated from East Moline High School, attended Moline Community College and graduated from St. Ambrose College with a teaching degree. He served in the US Army post Korea. While in the service he was a public affairs instructor and was an illustrator for the Army newspaper. He taught for the East Moline School District at Hoffman School and retired from Wells. Tom had served as president for the teachers union. He was an active and devoted member of Assumption Church, serving on the board, and past president. He loved antiques and restoring various items. He was also a fan of classic cars. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Shirley Lingris, Orange Park, FL; grandson, Greg Lingris Jr.; life partner, Judy Larson; brother, Peter (Suzanne) Lingris, Moline; sister-in-law Darlene Lingris, East Moline; a niece and two nephews.
