Tom Paul Pappas, 83, Carbon Cliff, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his family. Funeral services are 10 AM Thursday at Christ United Methodist Church, Silvis Campus. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd, East Moline. Memorials may be made to QC Animal Welfare Center, Milan. Tom was born on October 29, 1933 in St. Louis, MO, the son of John Thomas and Grace (Williams) Pappas. He graduated from UTHS and went on to serve 27 years in the US Naval Reserves, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He married Joyce Elaine Miller on June 14, 1953 at Silvis United Methodist Church. He retired in 1989 as Quality Assurance Specialist from the Rock Island Arsenal. For many years, Tom was the Head Official for area high school football and basketball games. He was a St. Louis Cardinal Fan, an accomplished golfer, having 4 holes in one, and enjoyed coffee with the boys at McDonald's whenever he could. He and his wife loved to travel and enjoyed their cabin in Park Rapids, MN. Tom attended Christ United Methodist Silvis Campus and enjoyed their Mens Brotherhood. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joyce, daughters, Paula Pappas, Moline, Tammie (David) Marriott, Sarasota, FL and Laura Hartzell, East Moline, grandchildren, Brandy Fisher, Allyson (Kyle) Coverdill, Alicia Hartzell and John Marriott, and great grandchildren, Chase, Ayden and Brayden.
