Urban D "Mouse" DePorter, 87, East Moline, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at his home. Funeral services are 11 AM Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 2-6 PM Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 1:30PM. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Church. Urban was born on August 11, 1928 in Moline, the son of Urban and Alice (Barbier) DePorter. He married Jacqueline L. Blunke on August 8, 1953 at St. Anne's Church. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as a Captain for the East Moline Fire Department in 1982 after 24 years. With the grace of God, Mouse saved many lives of people and animals while part of the Fire Department. Mouse also worked in maintenance for Homewood Manor Apartments in Moline for 20 years. He was a member of the East Moline American Legion Post 227, VFW 2056, and served on East Moline's Pension Board for 40 years. He was an active member of St. Anne's Parish, serving on Parish Council and chairman of Building and Grounds. He had been a member of the East End Boulders Club and the Friends Circle. Mouse was a hard worker who was devoted to helping others. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping and finding a good bargain at yard sales. Mouse was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His singing fish and clapping monkeys were always a hit with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jackie, children, MaryEllen (Wayne) Blette, Peggy Roffman, Connie (Craig) Vervaecke, John DePorter (Stefanie), all of East Moline and James DePorter (Brenda), Moline, grandchildren, Jessie (David) Dies, Daniel Vervaecke, Laura Vervaecke, Jenna (Nichole) Kaltenbach, Jaclynn DePorter, Tyler Freese (Mandy) and Devon Gamboe, great grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb Urban, Annelise, Mason, Eli, Gavin, Mya and Quintin, sisters Karol Fridley, Wheaton, Barb Davies, Red Cloud, NE., brother, Tony DePorter, Mt. Morris, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
