Funeral services for Vahalia M. "Vee" Olvera, 101, of East Moline, IL, will be noon Friday, May 24, 2024, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 10AM until noon Friday at the church. Mrs. Olvera passed away Friday, May 17, 2024, at her home.
Vee Vasquez was born January 29, 1923, in Green River, IL, the daughter of Maximo and Fidela Assencion Arenvo Vasquez. She married Guadalupe Olvera Sr. June 18, 1949, in Muscatine, IA. He passed away August 31, 2012. She was the "Salad Lady" for 47 years at Short Hills Country Club East Moline, where she invented the "Vee Salad" which is still very popular today. She was one of the last survivors from Cook's Point.
Survivors include her children and spouses, John and Mary Ann Olvera, Jerry Olvera, Janet and Ron Anderson, Guadalupe and Daphne Olvera Jr., Benjamin Olvera, Carlos and Stephany Olvera, Felix Olvera, and Francisca and Richard Tijerina; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren;
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael A. Olvera; grandson, Austin Boja; brothers, Louie, Maurice, and Sam Vasquez; sisters, Mrs. Viola Savala and Mrs. Emma Terronez; and a daughters-in-law, Linda Olvera and Romona Olvera.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church or Christ the King Catholic Church.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped with caring for Mrs. Olvera.
