Funeral services for Valentine "Val" Ponce, 79, of Silvis, IL, will be 10:00AM Wednesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 3:00-7:00PM Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30PM. Mrs. Ponce died Saturday, October 22, 2011 at University Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, after a brief illness. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Epilepsy Foundation. Val was born February 14, 1932 in Moline, IL, the daughter of Joseph and Bernarda Martel DeLaRosa. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School East Moline and United Township High School. She married Umberto "Red" Ponce February 11, 1956. She and her husband have owned and operated the Ice Cream Palace, Silvis for 46 years. She had been a life member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline, until its closing. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Red Ponce, Silvis; daughters, Paula Ponce, Silvis, Johnna (Dennis) Mahoney, Colona; son, Bernie Ponce of Silvis; grandchildren, Austin and Alexa Mahoney; brothers, Anthony (Trudy) DeLaRosa, Moline, Mark DeLaRosa, Moline, Robert (Sally) DeLaRosa, Milan; and many nieces and nephews.
