Valerie Irene Lopez, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at her home. She was born at home in East Moline, Illinois, on November 27, 1938.

She was the beloved daughter of Eluterio and Sophie Martel.

Valerie was married to Gonzalo Lopez for 47 years, sharing a life rooted in love, devotion, and faith.

She was a bright and dedicated student, earning mostly A's and a few B's throughout her schooling. Valerie later worked at Lord's Jewelers in Moline, John Deere, and the Rock Island Arsenal.

Valerie was a faithful member of St. Anne's Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. She also enjoyed going to dances and spending time with those she loved.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Anne Rodriguez and Margorie Hughes.

Valerie is survived by her four children:  Tom (Lisa) Lopez, Brian (Mila) Lopez, Lisa (Lonnie) Eklof, and Aaron Lopez; eleven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren with one on the way; and brother, Carlos Martel.

In keeping with Valerie's wishes, there will be no services. She is now at peace in God's loving care and joyfully dancing with her mother in heaven.
