Verle Elizabeth (Gustafson) Dehon 83, formerly of Moline passed quietly on Friday June 5th 2015, at the Whispering Pines Assisted Living/Memory Care home in Grand Rapids, MN. Funeral services are 10 AM Thursday at Wildwood Baptist Church, East Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. She was born on July 3rd 1931, to Clifford and Nola (Shove) Gustafson. Liz graduated from East Moline High School in 1949 where she met her husband George H. Dehon whom she married on March 24th 1951. After their wedding they moved to Norfolk Virginia while George served on the battleships USS New Jersey/ USS Iowa during the Korean War. They returned to the Quad-Cities at the end of the conflict and resided in Moline. She was a member of the 49'ners girls club which met monthly for food, fun, and games for 60-years. Members were graduates of East Moline High School. Liz was also an avid sports fan. She loved watching all sports but she was a huge Chicago Cubs fan. She was always lamenting the slogan в??wait until next year' and despite their not winning a world series in her life time she was the ultimate optimist. She was also an above average bowler and bowled for the Pepsi-Cola team for many years in East Moline. Liz participated in the PTA, assisted the Moline High School marching band with uniforms and other events. She also loved to read and enjoyed sharing time with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61-years in 2012. Her parents Clifford and Nola passed in the mid 1980's, and her brother Gene Gustafson passed in 2004. She is survived by a son, Andrew, a daughter in-law, Rebecca (Hall), two grandchildren, Cassandra, and Garrett residing in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She also has a sister, Elva Mae (Gustafson) Hallstrom, of Rockford, Illinois.
