Vernon was born on October 19, 1924 on a farm in Sheffield, IL, to Charles and Ida (Van Hulle) Blomme. He graduated from Cambridge, IL High School, was drafted into the United States Navy and served in World War II aboard the USS Cuyama, a fuel tanker. He was present during the liberation of the Philippines and received a bronze star. He began work with the former Case IH East Moline plant, retiring 42 years later. He married Anne J. Vernon was a board member of the IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union, involved for over 40 years. Vern was a voracious reader and instilled higher education goals for his family. Other special interests included carpentry, framing, horticulture and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed playing euchre, rolle bolle, golf and bowling. He loved traveling with his wife and they vacationed many places around the United States.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Anne; nine children - Donna DiManna, Silvis, IL; Vicki (Barry) Robertson, New Windsor, IL; Dennis (Debbie) Blomme, Glenelg, MD; Karen Blomme, Davenport, IA; LaRea (Dave) McMillin, East Moline, IL; Scott (Debbie) Blomme, Eldridge, IA; Michelle Keller, Rock Island, IL; Michael Blomme, Hampton, IL; Bruce (Stacey) Blomme, Bettendorf, IA; eleven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
