Funeral services for Vernon F. Thomas, 94, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 1:30PM. Mr. Thomas died Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Heartland Care Center, Moline, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church. Mr. Thomas was born January 18, 1918 in Cleveland, OH. He was raised by his grandmother in Piper City, IL. He married Eleanor Petry April 16, 1940 in Bloomington, IL. He attended Business School in Kankakee, IL. Vernon came to East Moline in 1939 to work as a bookkeeper at Warren Chevrolet. Five years later, he joined C.J. Bendle & Associates, beginning an extended career as a public accountant. He last worked for Carpentier, Mitchell, Goddard & Co. in May of 2012. He had been an involved member of St. Anne Catholic Church, a member of the Moline Rotary, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Eleanor Thomas, East Moline; daughters, Carolyn Grenier, Olney, MD and Mary (Don) Lulow, East Moline, IL; son, Jim (Sandra J. )Thomas, East Moline; 8 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
