Funeral services for Victor M Steiner, 90, Moline, are 12Noon, Thursday September 9th at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday, September 8th at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to Scleroderma Research or to Zion Lutheran Church, East Moline. Victor passed away Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport. Vic was born September 30, 1919 in Granville, IL, the son of Anton and Mary (Lesar) Steiner. He married Alice Salmonson on February 9, 1972, in East Moline. She died August 15, 2007. He retired after 38 years as a machinist from the Rock Island Arsenal. He served for four years in the US Army during WWII. During WWII with the 3rd Armored Division, he was part of the landing at Omaha Beach. He also served briefly during the Korean War. Victor received the rank of Sergeant. . He was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. Mr. Steiner was a former member of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club and was passionate about the game of golf. He liked fishing and was extremely devoted to his family and his many nieces and nephews. Survivors include a brother, Bernard (Pat) Steiner, Geneseo, and sisters; Beverly (Bill) Hart-Hemphill, AZ, and Patricia (James) Weir, Moline and numerous nieces and nephews. Vic is preceded in death by brothers Tony and Joseph and his sisters Marie Bowling and Margaret Ossian.
