Obituary

Funeral services for Vincent H. Polaschek, 92, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00 am Saturday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 pm Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm. Mr. Polaschek died Monday, June 18, 2018, at Amber Ridge.

Vince was born February 5, 1926, in Tracy, MN, the son of John and Mary Dastych Polaschek. He served in the US Navy during WWII, serving aboard the USS Beckham in the Pacific Theatre, including Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He married Mary Jo Van Hoe October 11, 1952, in East Moline. She died September 16, 2017. He retired from the John Deere Foundry in September of 1983 as a Quality Control Inspector for nearly 35 years. He served on the Board of Directors for the former John Deere Foundry Credit Union. He pursued his passion in life of photography and gardening.

Survivors include his children, Linda (Bob) Black, Hillsdale, IL, Tom (Chris) Polaschek, Garland, TX, and Jane Fleming, Moline; grandchildren, Matt (Sarah) Wessels, Mike Wessels, Stacy (Josh) Neyland, Amy (Jeff) Wong, Quincy (Susy) Hughes, Brent Polaschek, and Lacey Polaschek; 15 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and of course his dog, Holly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Helen Van Moer, Dorothy Van Hulle, and Pauline Marks, brothers, Joseph, Leo, William, Francis, and David Polaschek.

Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, where he had been a member.

The family would like to thank Vince's neighbors Greg Minear and Paul Garner for all their help and friendship.
