Viola Lyon, 95, East Moline, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Funeral services are 11 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to 1st Presbyterian Church, East Moline, where she was a member.

Viola was born January 15, 1922 in Washington, IA, the daughter of Will and Emma (Knotek) Marek. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College. Viola married Harry Lyon on March 22, 1952 in Davenport, IA. He died November 27, 1979. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, square dancing and danced with the Solo Steppers. Viola helped to raise a substantial amount of money, fundraising for the WWII Memorial in Washington DC.

Survivors include her daughter, Diann (Richard) Richardson, Arvada, CO, grandchildren, Alex Richardson, Dan Lyon, Kendallyn Lyon, and Brent Richardson, great granddaughter, Erica Lyon, daughter-in-law, Karen Lyon, Tumwater, WA and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son David, a brother Lorence Marek and sister Evelyn Rolfs.
