Loving mother and grandmother, Viola Mae Schaeffer, 80, of Moline, died Monday, June 4, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. She was surrounded by her three children at the time of her death. Funeral services are 1:30 PM Thursday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., 1500 6th Street, East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-6 PM today at the funeral home. Viola was born March 24, 1927 in Brighton, IA, the second of eight children born to Ezra and Blanch (Houston) Christner. She married George Schaeffer in April of 1945. She was employed by International Harvester, East Moline for over 20 years, retiring in 1988. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Josephine and Michael Johnson, Springfield, Ohio, sons and daughters-in-law George and Nancy Schaeffer Jr., Moline and Jerome and Barbara Schaeffer, Laughlin Nevada; sister Maxiene (Robert) Carris, Keota, IA, brothers; Marvin (Rita) Christner, What Cheer, Iowa, and Forrest (Trilla) Christner, Columbus Junction, Iowa, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Lucille Koth, Ruby Rockhill, Freda Quick and brother Hubert Christner.
