Funeral services for Viola M. Valentine, 94, of Silvis, are 11 AM Monday at Wildwood Baptist Church, East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 9:30 AM until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wildwood Church, where she was a member. Vi died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf. Viola Doud was born March 14, 1912 in Bussey, IA, the daughter of Jesse and Louise (Matre) Doud. She married Earl Valentine, March 9, 1935 in Des Moines, IA. He died January 30, 1999. She retired in 1974 as a payroll clerk from John Deere Harvester Works. Mrs. Valentine had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed reading and travel. Survivors include daughter Janyce Valentine, East Moline, son and daughter-in-law Jim and Evelyn Valentine, grandchildren; Julie Valentine, Kathi Sweeney, Cheryl Theofilis, Pam McCutcheon and Lori Barr and great grandchildren; Cory, Lindsey, Kayla, Tanner, Daniel, Marshall and Brett. Our Grandma was truly an inspiration to our family. The strength that she possessed is one that is certainly rare. No matter what the circumstance our Grandma always understood and cared. We want to thank you Grandma and we want to thank God too, for if it wasn't His choice, we wouldn't have been blessed, by such a beautiful Grandma as you.
