Virginia M. Dhondt, 93, of East Moline, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Park Vista Retirement Living, East Moline.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with recitation of the rosary at 3:00 pm. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline.
Virginia was born on November 28, 1932, in Guttenburg, IA, the daughter of Armin and Viola (Gilbertz) Grossell. She married Phil J. Dhondt on August 13, 1955, in Rock Island. Virginia worked as a nurse for Dr. Frieband and Dr. Pesch. Virginia was a dedicated parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, and was involved in several groups and helped out everywhere she could. Her late husband, Phil, and her loved to travel. Virginia enjoyed reading, playing dominoes, and getting together with friends to play cards.
Virginia is survived by her children, William (Jodi) D'Hondt, Coal Valley, Theresa (Joseph) Fusilier, River Falls, WI, Jon (Christine) Dhondt, Everett, WA, and Lisa (Chris) Whan, Sherrard, IL; grandchildren, Christopher (Kaitlynn) D'Hondt, Caitlin (Josh) Killingsworth, Amanda (Bryan) Gibbs, Elizabeth (Jonathon) Bless, Roxanne (Jace) Frederick, Thomas Fusilier, Reese Dhondt, Spencer Dhondt, Philip Whan, and Tyler Whan; and numerous great grandchildren and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil Dhondt; parents; brother, Armin J. Grossell; and sister, Marilyn Merchie.
