Obituary

Waldo "Clyde" McCarty, 88, of Carbon Cliff, IL, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024, at home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

Clyde was born May 26, 1935, to Cecil Z. and Mary E. (Parks) McCarty. He graduated from Ottumwa High School, Ottumwa, IA, in 1953. He married Carol O. Turner on July 1, 1961, in East Moline.

Clyde enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in April of 1954 and was honorably discharged in November of 1957. Following his active duty, he served in the Air Force Reserves until 1961.

He began working as an Air Traffic Controller in Indianapolis, IN, until 1960 when he moved to East Moline. He then worked at Eagle Signal, International Harvester, Moline Iron Works, John Deere Malleable, then John Deere Foundry. He retired in 1990, then went to work at Water Works Car Wash, East Moline.

Clyde loved working on cars and trucks in his spare time, NASCAR racing, and country music. His favorite car was a 1955 Chevy.

He was a talented musician, and lead singer in his band, the "Nu-Tones", for many years. He enjoyed playing country and country rock.

He was an active member of Colona United Methodist Church for many years, and the Silvis Masonic Lodge, 898 A.F. & A.M.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Carol, of Carbon Cliff; children, Carol F. (Kevin) Lynn, Galesburg, IL, James D. (Tina) McCarty, Green River, IL; grandchildren, Heather, Lucas, and Britney; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and six sisters.
