Known to most as Walt, Tubencio Carpio, 89, Moline, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at Unity Point, Rock Island, surrounded by his family. Funeral services are 2PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation is from 1PM until service time. A rosary will be recited at 12:45PM. Entombment will be in Moline Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. He was born January 24, 1927, in East Moline, the son of Pedro and Mary (Perez) Carpio. He married Alma Guyer on February 17, 1968, in Moline She preceded him in death on September 5, 2003. Walt was a skilled small appliance repairman. He served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Walt was a charter member of the World War II Memorial Monument in Washington DC and the World War II National Museum in New Orleans, LA. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and music. He was kind, generous, witty and was always quick with a smile and a helping hand. Survivors include siblings, Joseph Carpio, Margaret Mayer, Lupe Reese, Terry (Adolph) DeFauw, and Joanne (Roger) Hurt and many nieces and nephews who loved and cared about him, step daughters Janice and Jean, numerous step grand and great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charles, Jesse, Frank, Tony and Robert.
