Funeral services for Walter C. Schulte, 94, Belize, Central America, formerly of East Moline, are 10 AM Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Rapids City, IL. Entombment is in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline with a Prayer Service to be held at the conclusion of visitation. Walt died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at his home. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy, East Moline. Walt was born May 7, 1915 in East Moline, the son of William and Pauline (Neels) Schulte. He married Joanna VanThorre May 9, 1939 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. He had run the Van Thorre Hardware in East Moline until 1969 and then Schulte's Power Equipment until 1978. He had served as past president of the East Moline Chamber of Commerce, city council member for the City of East Moline, past president of the Isaac Walton League, Treasurer of the County Fair Board, Catholic order of Foresters, Davenport Moose Lodge, AARP, Davenport 60+ Club, and a volunteer at Illini Hospital. He enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips to Canada, and morotcycle trips all over the U.S. Survivors include his son, Steven Schulte of Belize, daughters; Sharon Jones of Westwego, LA and Simone and Ron Andon, East Moline and Sheryl Schulte of Yolktown Heights, NY, six grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, a brother Rev. Carl Schulte of Independence, MO and a sister Corine Schulte, Silvis. He is preceded in death by his wife Joanna, his parents, a sister Alice and a brother William.
