Walter Eric "Swede" Nordholm Jr., 72, Colona, died Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Trinity Rock Island. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd,. East Moline, where a prayer service and a time of sharing will be held at 6:30PM. Private inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Swede was born on May 14, 1941 in Moline, the son of Walter E. and Betty (Fox) Nordholm Sr. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era. He had worked for the Rock Island Lines and later retired as a supervisor from Alcoa, Bettendorf in 1999. He loved spending time at the family cabin in Minnesota, he enjoyed fishing and boating and was an avid NASCAR and dirt late model enthusiast. Survivors include his children Richard (Judy) Nordholm, Silvis, Ericka Johnston, Colona and Signa "Katie" Nordholm, Colona, grandchildren Kaylee, Mara and Lacie, and siblings, Betty (Ray) Kopatich, East Moline, Wilford (Lucy) Nordholm, Ottertrail, Minnesota, Gary Nordholm, East Moline, Larry (Mary) Nordholm, Hillsdale, Gayla Nordholm Spencer, Colona and Dale Nordholm, Silvis. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Vala Riley.
