Obituary

Walter Anthony "Tony" Ruthey, 82, East Moline, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A mass of Christian Burial to celebrate his life will be at 11 AM Thursday, October 11th at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 3-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Les Turner Foundation for ALS Research through Northwestern Hospital, Chicago.

Tony was born in Kewanee, IL on December 7, 1935, the son of Walter and Grace (Hall) Ruthey. He married his beloved wife of 62 years, Janet Briggs, on October 27, 1956 in Kewanee. Tony retired as a foreman from John Deere Foundry in 1986 after 30 years. Tony was an avid sportsman and an accomplished golfer. He competed in the 1959 National Public Links Golf Tournament in Denver, CO. Founded the Kewanee Men's Golf Association in 1959. He won the 1968 QC Amateur Golf Tournament. In 1990, Tony was inducted into the Kewanee Golf Hall of Fame. He was a 5 time Club Champion at Oakwood Country Club, a 3 time President Club Champion at Oakwood, 4 time Oakwood Father-Son Champion, and 3 time Short Hills Father-Son Champion. Tony was also an avid Cubs and Bears fan, and loved fishing.

His family celebrates his well lived life.

In addition to his wife, Tony is survived by four children; Michele Ruthey, Moline, IL, Mark (Tammy) Ruthey, Port Byron, Mindee (Ric) DeSmet, East Moline and Mia (Sergio) Nino, Moline, four grandchildren; Aaron Ruthey, Amy (Caleb) Arnold, Noah Ruthey and Anthony Ruthey; and 2 great grandchildren, Jameson Ruthey and Harper Arnold, and his brother, Terry Ruthey, Kewanee.
