Funeral services for Walter L. "Wally" Wood, 78, East Moline, are 1PM Thursday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home with a liturgy service at 4PM. Wally died Monday, June 1, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. A memorial fund has been established. Walter was born May 11, 1931 in Chicago, IL, the son of Walter Leroy and Esther (Shindler) Wood. He graduated from Moline High School. He married Marion Provoost on October 16, 1954 at St. Anne's Church. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Wally had worked for John Deere and later drove for Brink's Security. He was a member of the East Moline American Legion where he was a member of the Honor Guard and was past commander. He was a member of Christ the King Church, C.A.R.P., and the Ridgewood Tower Social Club. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marion, children and spouses Tim and Peggy Wood of Unionville, MO and Cheryl and Carlos Vega of Davenport, grandchildren; Brandon and Mitchell Wood and Travis, Bryan and Alyse Lopez, great grandchildren Kaidyn and Braxton, a sister Jean Thompson of Moline, one niece and a nephew. He is preceded in death by his parents and a nephew.
