Funeral services for Wayne King Shaffer, 71, of East Moline, IL, will be 2:00 PM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Mr. Shaffer passed away Friday, December 7, 2007 at Aspen Rehab and Health Care in Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to the family. He was born November 18, 1936 in Moline, IL, the son of Lyle and Lavona (Davis) Shaffer. Wayne was employed at Eagle Signal for 25 years and the Holiday Inn until his retirement in 1998. Wayne was a member of the Union Congregational Church, Moline, IL. He reveled playing in various sports for many years. He was an extraordinary athlete. Being a die-hard New York Yankee fan he enjoyed playing baseball the most. He had a passion for music and cherished his monthly get together with his Eagle Signal pals. His wit and humor went beyond exceptional. He was a very loving and caring man. Those left to honor Wayne's loving memory are: daughters, Shelly Sue and Merrilou Shaffer, Los Angeles, CA, sisters, Phyllis Gomez, East Moline, IL, Frances Shaffer, Silvis, IL, Madeline Phelps, East Moline, IL; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and a great great niece.
