Funeral services for William "Bill" Bornhoeft, 80, East Moline, are 11 AM Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 3-7 PM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, where he was a member or the Rock Island County Animal Care and Control at Brent's Park, Moline. Bill died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at his home. He was born May 12, 1930 in East Moline, the son of Theodore and Helen Nelson. He married Betty Zimmerman on May 20, 1952 in Moline. He served on a destroyer in the US Navy during the Korean War. Bill worked as a heating and air-conditioning Technician and in February of 1978 he founded Bornhoeft Heating and Air, East Moline. He ran the company from 1978 until he retired in January of 1994. His son Steven continued the company until April 1, 2009 when two of Bill's grandsons took over the business. He served as an Airport Commissioner for 15 years, and was very active in the community, serving on various committees over his lifetime. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking, fishing, and flying. Bill had a passion for life that was built on a foundation of his love for his family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty, children and spouses; Steven and Darlene Bornhoeft, East Moline, Susan and Michael Freburg, Bettendorf, and Janice and Terry Larson of Oak Creek, WI, nine grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, a sister Henrietta Bornhoeft of East Moline, and brothers; Jack Bornhoeft of Columbus, OH and Louis Bornhoeft of California. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Margaret, Eleanor, Helen, a brother Ted and a grandchild.
