Obituary

Funeral services for William J. "Bill" Dell, 88, East Moline, are 10 AM Tuesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a liturgy service will be held at 3:30PM. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Church, where he was a member. Bill died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Hope Creek, East Moline. Bill was born March 30, 1922 in Youngstown, OH, the son of George and Aurelia (Ward) Dell. He served in the US Army during WWII as an ambulance driver in the European Theater. He graduated from Youngstown State University in 1951. He married Bessie Chickris on July 9, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. Bill retired as a metallurgist from John Deere Foundry in 1984 after 30 years with the company. After retirement, Bill worked as a consultant for John Deere, traveling to China in 1985 and to India in 1996. Mr. Dell received a certificate of Merit from John Deere for his exceptional work and was a life long member and former chairman of the American Foundrymen's Society. Bill enjoyed the game of golf and was a charter member of the Mill Creek Country Club, which is now Pinnacle. survivors include his wife of 55 years, Bessie, children (spouse); George Dell of Oswego, IL, Suzanne Dell, Rock Island and David (Missy) Dell, East Moline, grandsons D.J. and Adam and a great grandson Logan. Bill's family would like to thank the staff at Hope Creek for their exceptional care and compassion.
